Touch stones
Touchstones are a nice way of reconnecting people to Mother Earth, they don’t have to be anything fancy. Holding a touchstone can be a comfort and can help the person ground their energy which is very healing and strengthening.
Grounding is the foundation of a healthy system and everyone can benefit from it. All healers must be very aware of their grounded state, as to heal effectively and in a sustainable way requires the flow of healing energy through a well-balanced energy system.
By grounding we mean the connection of the Hunan energy field to that of the earth. This connection allows you to draw from the abundant source of the Earth’s energy while at the same time ensuring that you do not accumulate excess energy-this can be thought of like the earth wire for electricity-excess energy is safely dissipated into the ground. Being grounded let’s you deal with life in a secure and rational manner.
A grounding visualization can be helpful. Use the image of roots growing out from the sole if each foot deep down into the earth and then drawing up earth energy. Draw the energy up through your feet and legs and up through your torso up to your heart center. Try to become more aware of your grounded state and take daily steps towards strengthening this connection. You will most likely notice a difference in your health and vitality if you do.

Kale salad with blood oranges

I’ve been re-reading Cooking Without Recipes by Cheryll Sindell. It has been sitting on my shelf for over 10 years, I read it with new eyes since “cleaning” up my diet. Many of the ideas within can be applied to the macrobiotic cooking that I am learning, I re-read the chapter on grains with much more interest than before.

One quote that I noticed on p238

Today’s adventure in creative cooking…

Marinated kale salad with blood oranges and toasted walnuts

Ingredients:
Some chopped kale (a bowlful) (dinosaur kale works best)
A lemon
garlic
olive oil
shredded carrots
blood oranges
toasted walnuts

Combine the juice of the lemon with the pressed garlic clove and the olive oil, then put the washed, cut-up kale and shredded carrot in, massage it with your hands until it wilts and gets softer. Add in the blood orange segments and sprinkle with chopped toasted walnuts.

This packs a vitamin C punch, ideal as last night I was fighting off the sniffles, but they seem to have gone today. This salad is extra insurance.

The color palette is also delicious.
